About the event

HBPT and the CEO of the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth are both pleased to invite you to a rare opportunity to explore behind the scenes of the theatre whilst learning about the history of the theatre and the building. In 1907 the Kings Theatre opened its doors and has ever since been a magnet for theatregoers from in and around Portsmouth and Southsea. The tour will be followed by a short forum to announce the regeneration plans of the building which is a theatre of National importance.

The Kings Theatre is Grade II* Listed and designed by the theatre Architect Frank Matcham. Out of the 150 or so theatres designed by Frank Matcham, there are only about 25 still in existence thus making the Kings a very special place. The Kings Theatre opened on 30 September 1907.

Tickets will be sold for £10pp as a small donation to both trusts and payment can be made via cash or bank transfer, where the proceeds will go towards continuing to fund the preservation of the Kings and other buildings around Hampshire.

Refreshments will be availible to purchase during the event using cash or card.

Level access is at Stalls level only, all other levels are accessed via stairs/steps. Please note there is no lift in the theatre. See further information here: https://www.kingsportsmouth.co.uk/your-visit/access/
